Get out the blender...
Submitted by pascale on Fri, 06/18/2010 - 15:50.Garlic scapes are here for pesto...and Red Jacket has a new summer nectar that's great for smoothies: it's called Blueberry Stomp (and it's a nice base for cocktails, too).
Tomorrow, Clean Ridge Soap Co., will be here with their delicious soaps and lotions just in time for last-minute teacher gifts. They are only with us once a month so make sure you buy accordingly.
Ditto for Bombay Emerald, our longtime chutney vendors who, in addition to their frozen samosas, will also be unveiling a new dish: Royal Kofta.

Summer in April...
Submitted by pascale on Sat, 04/10/2010 - 11:00.It's just a tease, like this April (!) summer swelter, but the Hastings Farmers Market is going outdoors this Saturday.
We're still on the once-monthly, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. "winter" schedule until June 5th, when the outdoor season of weekly markets starts in earnest. And, we won't have our usual bells and whistles (no live music, yoga, storytelling etc..). Still, Saturday should offer a lovely taste and peek of what's to come.
Shop for all things RED at the Hastings Farners Market this Saturday, Feb. 13th 9 to 1 p.m.

Some local honey for your honey?
Loose mint tea for that special chick-a-dee?
Sure, you could go for predictable roses or diamonds or chocolates in a box, or you could find everything you need at the Hastings Farmers Market: Catskills granola, homespun soups, lasagna and ravioli hand-made by a charming Italian expat, king oyster mushrooms (aphrodisiacs, natch) bio-dynamic meats, rustic peasant loaves you can tear apart together and eat with a wedge of farmstead Eden cheese.
Results of our Third Annual Apple Pie Contest!!!
Submitted by pascale on Mon, 11/02/2009 - 18:23.In case you missed all the action on Saturday, the apple pie contest was, once again, a big draw and a great success.
The overall "gold medal" winner was Hastings resident Gil Reavill who was the first to drop off his pie entry early Saturday morning in a gigantic cardboard box.
Reavill's recipe for "Bon-Ton Roulet Apple Crumb Pie"
came from the Bon Ton Cafe in Wausau, Wisconsin where Reavill used to hang out as a teenager. Reavill used only top shelf ingredients like farmers market apples, Ceylon cinnmon and leaf lard from Stone Hill Farms. (The recipe is below).
I've lost my touch...a soggy market day is in store
Submitted by pascale on Fri, 10/23/2009 - 22:42.For three years now, people have been asking me about my relationship with the weather gods. For a long time, it seemed that every market day was blessed with perfect weather.
Our lucky streak has clearly ended!
And, I'm sorry to report that the pie contest is - yet again -- postponed until next week - which happens to be Halloween.
We just hope that means more and more people will enter the third time around.
We're also hoping more teens and tweens will enter this year.
For them, we've created a new category: "Best First Attempt at an Apple Pie."
Pie Contest Postponed to Oct. 24th!
Submitted by pascale on Sat, 10/17/2009 - 01:25.Dear shoppers,
We're hoping that we've caught you before you rolled out your dough...after much deliberation we've decided to postpone the Apple Pie Contest until next week (Oct. 24th). The weather is going to be just plain nasty tomorrow: they're calling for rain and gusty winds. Not only will the pies get soggy but no one will want to stick around and dive into the table of pies, as per tradition, once the judges have made their call.
