Hastings 1, Heat Wave 0

Wow! That was some heatwave, wasn't it? We hope you’ve all been keeping cool and well hydrated. Farmers have had to curtail their harvesting operations; it's simply been too hot to be in the fields in the afternoon. We all: farmers, makers, and shoppers can breathe a sigh of relief for cooler temperatures forecast this weekend.

When it’s too hot to turn on the oven, this Simple Shrimp Ceviche will delight you. Briefly boil your shrimp from Pura Vida and then assemble the ceviche. Easy peasy! Make a quick salad with greens from Thousand Leaf Gardens Farm and dinner is served.

Looking for another way to enjoy seasonal cherries from Mead Orchards without turning to pie? Why not give this Cherry Rasam, a South Indian cherry soup, a savory go? Find garlic and cilantro at your favorite farm’s tent; you might serve with a dollop of labneh from White Moustache Yogurt. Or, fire up the grill for Grilled Pork Chops with Cherries. Find pork chops at R&M Farm, natch. Since you’ve got the grill going, make organic grilled carrots with the bounty at Titusville Farm.

We are thrilled to welcome a new vendor to the plaza this week: Sugar Shack Creamery. They are a goat-milk creamery AND also produce maple syrup as their name suggests, but their maple products won’t be ready until the fall. Until then, you can expect creamy and naturally sweet goat milk and goat-milk yogurt, drinkable yogurts (their maple flavored drinkable yogurt knocked our proverbial socks off)  and spreadable chèvre cheese. We’re so excited to have them here.

Also new on the plaza? Butter + Bow, whose artisanal cookies are already drawing crowds and selling out fast! Expect treats like Matcha Shortbread with White Chocolate, Strawberry and Pistachio Financier, and Pressed Pansy Shortbread. Need a quick breakfast? Try their Dreamy Banana Bread Mini Loaf or Peanut Butter, Coconut, and Chocolate Granola cookie. Heading to a barbeque? You’ll achieve most favored guest status immediately when you show up with Butter + Bow cookies!

Simple Fine Foods is back; Lisa has returned from her sojourn in Scotland. Find traditional British pub pies and hand rolls stuffed with chicken and leek, steak and mushrooms, veggie curry, and more. Staying hydrated is easy with a healthy Freshly Made Juice; pick up one to sip while you stroll and more to bring home for the warm days ahead.

The 4th of July is nearly here! Get BBQ ready with fresh ground beef from LeRoux Trading CO and find fluffy brioche rolls at Wave Hill Breads. Find chunky chicken breasts at R & M Farm for this grilled chicken. Up your pickle game with a stop at Doc Pickle and fill your charcuterie board with selections from Larchmont CharcuterieAux Bon Fromages, and Maplebrook Farm CreamerySpringbrook Hollow Farm Distillery can help refresh your bar cart just in time for the holiday!

Music is The Altogether and Fearless Cook Food Truck joins us on the plaza.

See you at the market!
