In the spring of 2018, the Market partnered with the Hastings Conservation Commission to introduce food scrap recycling for composting. The program was such a huge success that it had to move twice to accommodate the volume of food scraps.
Collection is now at the Hastings-on-Hudson Department of Public Works on Southside Avenue, less than half a mile from the Market. You can find out more about the food scrap collection program as well as purchase starter kits and compostable bags at the Market once a month.
We continue our commitment to limiting-and eventually eliminating-waste. To that end, most of our prepared food vendors have transitioned to compostable serviceware and there are bins at the Market where you can dispose of food scraps and the servicewear. We ask our shoppers to please join us in working towards a more sustainable Market.
