it's Official, It's Fall

Monday, September 22, 2025, at 2:19pm marks the official start of the fall season. At that moment, the sun will pass over the equator, marking nearly equal hours of daylight and night. While some mourn the end of summer, at the market we've got a plethora of reasons to celebrate the new season. Autumn means, in the words of Halal Pastures Farm’s Samer, the plants that crave cooler weather can now join the market party. Halal has been bringing colorful tomatoes of all shapes and sizes; we can now expect to find squashes, zucchinis, radishes, and more. Patty pan squash is fun to say and easy to cook. You could roast some up, drizzling with Agape Premium EVOO and showering with salt. Once roasted, they soak up flavor like little sponges. Serve as a side for this creamy lemon salmon dish, using salmon from Pura Vida and fresh herbs from Obercreek Farm

In a perfect market pairing, Unofficial Ice Cream collaborates with Brandon, of LeRoux Trading Co., to create her unique ice cream flavors. Quickly becoming a market darling, this week Abby will offer the Unofficial Ice Cream PB &J, which melds toasted bread ice cream with concord grape and peanut butter crumbles. Not a PB&J fan? No worries, she'll also have Corn with Rice, an heirloom polenta and puffed rice swirled custard. Want to stay seasonal? Try her MacIntosh sorbet! While you're in that upper corner of the market, grab some of LeRoux's polenta for parmesan polenta bowls with poached eggs. You can make the polenta ahead of time and then throw these together for a quick weeknight meal. Find yolky eggs at R&M Farm or colorful eggs at Halal. Pick up gorgeous swiss chard at Obercreek Farm or Titusville Farm

Looking for healthy breakfast options to get dawdling students out the door quickly each morning? These harvest muffins are just the ticket!  Start with a diced apple from Orchards of Concklin and then pack in veggies like carrots, zucchini, parsnips, squash, and/or beets from Morgiewiez Produce. Sweet and moist, they'll win over the whole family. Or try these chocolate chunk granola bars to start your day off right. Make batches of both to tuck into school lunch boxes. We guarantee neither will come back uneaten!

We can't celebrate the equinox without offering up some apple recipes; what says fall more than a delightful Honey Crisp? Stop by the Orchards of Concklin and then try this apple and kale salad to start a meal and then serve this skillet honey crisp apple cobbler for dessert. Have you seen that Maplebrook Farm Creamery offers Vermont's finest cultured butter? It's sure to elevate your cobbler to the next level!

It's the third Saturday of the month, so you know what that means: the return of Ready, Set, Sharp! As ever, bring your knives for Matt to sharpen while you shop. Norwegian Baked is making a cameo, be sure to pick up her classic Norwegian crispbreads in flavors like Rosemary & Lemon, Sea Salt, and Classic. The crispbreads are the perfect companion to tangy feta from Painted Goat Cheese or your favorite AYA Hummus. The Taco Project is our food truck, offering locally-sourced burritos, tacos, birrias, and more.

The music tent will be rocking with the musical stylings of Lucien C. Smith’s Blues Cruise. See you at the market!
