Love is in the Air

Happy Valentine's Day, Hastings!

As of this writing, Saturday's temperatures are expected to reach into the not-felt-in-quite-some-time 40s; huzzah! We can't wait to be back on the plaza with all of you, especially after being shuttered for a full month due to the snow and extreme cold.

Love is indeed in the air this weekend, whether it's ErosAgape, or Philia, and we've got vendors poised to help you express whatever you're feeling! Want to cook a meal for your honey emphasizing the local? This provocatively named Marry Me Salmon might suit, find salmon at Pura Vida Fish. Perhaps serve with Lidey Heuck's simple roasted potatoes? Add a big market salad created with Obercreek Farm's hot shot mix tossed with whatever catches your eye in the Halal Pastures Farm tent and drizzle with earthy olive oil and velvety balsamic vinegar from the serendipitously named Agape Premium EVOONoble Pies joins us this Saturday and, not to harp on a theme, their Will You Marry Me Cherry Pie is always a winner! Silvia's Kitchen's will offer brigadeiros with hearts as well as a heart shaped alfajores box filled with chocolate alfajores.

Cooking for a vegan? No problem! Try this Creamy Vegan Cabbage Pasta; fortunately, cabbage is plentiful at the Titusville Farm stand and you can find bucatini (or your preferred pasta) at La Trafila Pasta.

Also joining the love game? Wave Hill Breads will offer both heart-shaped baguettes and heart-shaped pizzas! Sold frozen, the pizzas make a quick and delicious heat-and-serve weeknight dinner. Why not pick up a few to pop in your freezer? A pop-up by Cream Bomb is on tap; baker Naoko's Japanese-style cream puffs are filled with light, airy, and perfectly sweet cream. She'll be bringing her classic flavors: Custard and Chocolate, along with a new Earl Grey flavor. For the holiday, she'll also have edible bouquets made of delicate meringue flowers.

We've got all the traditional Valentine's Day bases covered, with delightfully decadent dark chocolate bars from Raw Chocolate Love, lush red wine from Rosina's Winery, and even gorgeous (dried) flower wreaths from Titusville Farm. Looking for a token of your affection? We're pleased to introduce you to new vendor Sparkle and Splash; artist Lisa Lomonaco collects shells from the shores of Long Island and creates small treasures with paint. And, a creamy bar of Ash Hopper Botanical soap never, ever disappoints.

Unofficial Ice Cream's flavors of the week include: Kyoto Carrot, Buckwheat Honey, and a surprise flavor (knowing Abby, it will be outstanding!). Also: Orange and Bay Leaf Sorbet. Not to be outdone, AYA Hummus will offer market special Kitchari, a yellow lentil based hummus and an ode to the highly nourishing traditional Ayurvedic Indian dish, as well as Pomegranate Balsamic, featuring Agape Premium EVOO balsamic vinegar.

If a Honey Do list is your love language, please note that Ready, Set, Sharp! will set up in his usual spot. Matt will sharpen while you shop!

Finally, we're delighted to announce an event coming to you at the end of February; a collaboration between our own Tamara, of Agape, and local potter Ariella Toeman. Tamara will walk attendees through the important factors to know when buying and storing olive oil and Ariella will provide small plates for you to paint with slips and underglazes and sgrafitto tools for you to carve grooves and ridges to customize your plate. You might want more than one of those heart-shaped baguettes, as serving olive oil has never looked better!

As ever, we can't wait to see you at the market!
