Chili Time!
dear shoppers, Start up your slow-cookers.This Saturday we are hosting our first annual Chili Cook-Off. Two categories: "vegetarian" and "meat lover."
Please bring your entries - still warm - to the market tent by 10 :30 a.m.
There will be one top prize in each category. Winners get a $25 gift certificate to the downtown store of their choice. And bragging rights.
Our judges are none other than Don Wemer, the Hastings Volunteer Fire Department's Chili EXPERT and winner of the CBS Radio's Tri-State Firehouse Chili Cook-off in 2013, Lee Seinfeld - owner of NYC's Dive Bars - known for some of the best "bar" fare in the City and Barb Prisament, our new Downtown Advocate.
May the best chili win!
Here's a CLASSIC CHILI CON CARNE recipe from Men's Journal - for inspiration should you need it. The accompanying article includes the International Chili Society's official guidelines for making real deal chili. (But don't fret - we won't hold you to them.)
Pick up some Drunken Pumpkin ice cream from Penny Lick this week (laced with Bourbon, don't you know).
Don't forget to hit the Hastings Flea on Sunday at the train station. Always a good time and lots of good finds, too.
And, if you aren't able to make it to Saturday's market for some reason, don't despair: this Sunday and next (Nov. 9th and 16th) we are holding a "trial" Sunday Farmer's Market in Irvington from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Main St. School. Many of your favorite vendors plus lots of interesting new ones too!
Roaming Angus will NOT be at the market tomorrow. However, you can still order your Thanksgiving turkey by emailing Andrew King directly at: andrew.king@kingsroamingangus.com
We have the winter market schedule cards at the market tent. Please come get one to put on your fridge so you always know where to find us....
See you at the market!
