Honey Crisp - Queen of the Lunchbox!

dear shoppers, Just in time for Fashion Week, comes the Honey Crisp - the "it girl" of the apple world. An offshoot of a Macoun and Honey Gold, the Honey Crisp is sought after for its crisp, sweet snap.

It's best eaten out of hand, which is what makes it the perfect school snack.

If you are like me, you were scrambling to fill the lunchboxes this week, after days of picnic lunches on the fly or on the beach. Here are a few market inspired suggestions: chicken drumsticks with a dipping sauce (soy/hummus), chicken salad sandwiches (or just plain chicken salad with heirloom tomatoes, or atop a pile of salad greens) made with last night's roast chicken, sweet  plums - yellow & indigo -  sweet potato brownies, cherry tomatoes with Painted Goat feta,  prepared salads from True Food or Bistro du Soleil, hard-boiled EGGS, egg-salad sandwiches, peanut butter (Orchards of Concklin)  and jam (Wright's Orchard) sandwiches (have you tried their cherry and apricot jam or their strawberry spread?).

Bread Alone's Morning Glory muffins also make a great school treat - and, they freeze remarkably well so you can get enough to last you the week. Cut up a Pika's quiche or Lasagna from Riccardo. My kids love to find Taiim's edamame hummus with some fennel or cucumber slices tucked in their lunchbox. Now there' s a snack you can feel good about.
