21 October 2016  Dear Shoppers,

We hope you won't let a little rain get in the way of you and fresh, local protein & produce. Our vendors are driving hours to get to market despite the forecast with fresh bread, cheese, duck, pork, kale, potatoes, squash, and more. We're open until 1:30-plenty of time to wait out the rain and stop by.

The time has come for fresh brussels sprouts! There's nothing like walking through town with Morgiewicz sprouts still on their stalk-they are a unique and delightful sight! Get them early because they sell out quickly. They are particularly delicious paired with fatty duck or pork, as in this recipe from Chez US.You can get the duck fat at Hudson Valley Duck Farm along with smoked breast, duck salami, and sausage. If you need more brussels sprouts inspiration take a look at this collection of recipes from Food52 including a shaved sprout salad, apple bread stuffing with squash and brussels sprouts, and a chorizo beer hash.

Both Mariachi Mexico and Tiny Hearts Farm are back this week. Mariachi will serve warm chilaquiles verdes, veggie breakfast tamales, hand-pressed quesadillas, and taco de carnitas with agua de jamaica.

Tiny Hearts's stock of fresh-cut flowers is dwindling, though they will have a limited amount of stems for the early-comers. What they lack in fresh, they more than make up for with dried flowers, dried bunches, and dried mix bouquets. They will also have potted succulents and perhaps a few fall wreaths.

Hopefully the weather will cooperate and allow the very talented Hastings resident Jodi Levine of Super Make It to share her artistic magic of turning everyday objects into simple art projects with kids. She'll be on hand to work with children on fashioning fall leaves from coffee filters. She is scheduled to start at 9am, but check Facebook for any weather cancellations.

We will continue with our costume swap and may use a nearby indoor space if the rain proves too much. Please stop by to pick up some great costumes, including a fairy, multiple lady bugs, and a Paw Patrol outfit complete with hat and bag.

Music will be by Ruby Reilly, weather permitting.

See you at the market!
