PIE!

dear shoppers, Yep...it's that time of year: our annual pie-baking contest is tomorrow. The subject, as always, is APPLE.

You know the drill: pies (& tarts) must be completely home-made. No store-bought crusts or "50/50" pies.

Local apples must be the main ingredient - though you may add as many other ingredients as you please.

If the muse is with you, please include a poem, story, haiku or anecdote about your pie. In the event of a pie-breaker - the pie with the best story wins.

Pies must be dropped off at the market tent by 10:45 a.m. We are giving you an extra half hour this year to bake off your pie in the morning so - no excuses!

Group entries are encouraged (book club pie, boy scout troop pie, sister pie etc. etc.).

The weather looks just perfect for tomorrow. Only four markets left in our "weekly" season.

Gaia's Breath will be there tomorrow with all sorts of great cuts of veal and pork to make osso bucco or pulled pork.

Bombay Emerald is here for their once-monthly visit armed four fantastic chutneys (stock up for post Thanksgiving turkey sandwiches) as well as ayurvedic spices and some classic Indian Rotis. Take five minutes to watch this short video about this small mom n' pop operation based in Yorktown Heights.

Matt, our Knife Sharpener is here on the third Saturday of the month so his next visit is Nov. 16.

We have both the blue and red Hastings Farmers Market t-shirts in all sizes from 6 months to XXL. So come on by and pick one up!

Here is some fun video inspiration for making pie -- a rustic apple &  pear pie to be exact. This video will take all the stress out of making pie. Even if you can roll out a dough in your sleep, this is fun to watch (especially with your kids).

Many of the new folks who've moved to town in the last year have not joined our mailing list yet so please pass this along to anyone you think might be interested in entering - or attending.

See you at the market!
