Yes, No. On this, WE CAN ALL agree: Pie is good.
And it can even be incredibly healing. So, we invite you all to get out your rolling pins and enter our Sixth Annual Apple Pie Contest.
TAKE NOTE - SINCE MANY OF YOU WILL BE BUSILY WORKING ON HALLOWEEN COSTUMES THIS WEEKEND, WE ARE MOVING THE PIE CONTEST TO NEXT WEEK - NOVEMBER 2nd. (see rules below). PLEASE TELL ALL YOUR FRIENDS WHO ARE CONSIDERING ENTERING.
THIS WEEK, Oct. 26th, WE ARE instead HOSTING A PUMPKIN CARVING CONTEST.
It turns out art, too, can be healing, so why not take this opportunity to really get creative with your gourd this year. Bring your pumpkin to the market by 11 a.m. and our judges will pick the most ghoulish and most original carvings.
The last time we tried this, only a few of you entered. We are hoping to get a lot more entries this year!
The Apple Pie rules are simple: You MUST use local apples. Apples must be the main ingredient. And you you must make your own crust (no store-bought!). If you feel inspired, write a poem or anecdote about your pie submission. This could earn you extra points from the judges. And, if enough of you submit copy we will have a separate category for musings on pie. Bring your pie, and the recipe on an index card with your name and phone number on one side and the recipe on the other to the market tent no later than 10:30. a.m.
We hope you are all celebrating FOOD DAY today by eating food that is healthy, affordable, and sustainably produced.
Fall is a great season for weekend brunch. Here's a great breakfast "hash" recipe that features many ingredients you'll find at the market right now.
Flourish is back this week with their tasty "vegtetal" baked goods. So is Hummingbird Ranch, aka: "the honey guy."
Spice Revolution is also at the market with her special "accidental" vegan dark chocolate. She can tell you the story...but it is by far one of the best chocolates I've tasted in a very long time.
Ruby Reilly, visiting from Oberlin will play for an hour early in the day. Spuyten Duyvil will play from 11 to 1.
See you at the market!
