Help! I need somebody…not just anybody...

....to help run the Hastings Farmer's Market. The market is thriving and we need a (paid) assistant to help us manage our growth. We are looking for an outgoing person who is able to work most Saturdays during the market season (June through November) to assist with everything from deciding where the vendors go to  posting cool pics of rhubarb and raspberries on Instagram.

We would prefer to hire someone who knows their way around a kitchen, to help shoppers with cooking questions,  but that is not required. A love (and understanding) of locally-grown and produced food, however, is. We are looking for someone who is passionate about green markets and all they have to offer. And, of course, candidates must be willing to work outdoors in all kinds of weather. Wellies are a must.

The pay is commensurate with experience and one of the perks, of course, is getting first pick of market produce each Saturday, and, in some instances, discounts from select vendors. And working alongside some wonderful committee members and rock star volunteers.

If you know someone who might be interested, please pass this along.

Send a bio or resume to ninatrokel@gmail.com no later than March 30th.

Questions?  Come talk to me at the market this Saturday. Happy to give you more details.

You will find me, most likely, near the French Press Cafe table, enjoying one of their delicious empanadas - new to their menu.  Amply filled with either pulled pork or ground beef and tomato,  mixed vegetables or plain queso, these baked (not fried) pockets are packed with flavor and surprisingly light, which is why they sold out in record time at the last market. Everyone (including vendors) was buzzing about them.

Clean Ridge Soap Co. is back after a long hiatus with new products including economy-size Kitchen Hand Soap, Lavender Lotion and Lemon Verbena Lotion.  As you know, many of their products are made with pure essential oils and ingredients from local farms which is why they are so irresistible.

If this bout of sunshine and warmer temps has got you longing for summer, make sure to pick up a jar of limited-batch preserved summer tomatoes from City Saucery - guaranteed to put August on your plate.

Hudson River Apiaries will be here this week packing jars of local honey.

Honey Locust Farmhouse will be by next market  (March 28th) with her elderberry elixir and lots of jams and preserves.

Daniel from Larchmont Charcuterie is in Nepal hiking for the month but, worry not, his lovely daughter will be here selling his saucisson sec in his stead.

Our recipe this week is for a very spring-y radish top soup from dollyandoatmeal.com

Enjoy! And see you at the market!
